Swiss Army Rescue Tool x2

I just received two of these that I ordered using reward points from work. Why two? Well one for each vehicle we have.

I've never been a big fan of Swiss Army knives or their tools and have never owned one because of that, but I have to say that I am blown away by the quality and usefulness of this knife. It received the Knife of the Year Award in 2007 and I can now see why.

There are two versions of this knife available. One has the more traditional Swiss Army plain knife blade and the one pictured above, that I have, which has the one hand thumb opening blade made popular by brands such as Spyderco.
Side note: My 13-year-old plain edge Spyderco Delica remains the most perfect knife I have found and is my every day carry (EDC) knife of choice.

Here is a video that very nicely demonstrates some of the key "rescue" features of the Rescue Tool.

Winter Hiking - South Mntn, NC

I recently went for a day hike with Andy and his sons to South Mountain, NC. As you will see from the pictures below it was a very cold day but well worth the extra layers to witness some of the beautiful scenery that was there. The water falls at South Mountain are spectacular at any time of year, but in winter they take on a whole new dimension - quite breathtaking. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Video: Boiling water on coke can stove

Quick demonstration of how easy it is to boil water on one of my homemade coke can alcohol stoves. In the interest of saving time I had the stove already lit and cut out the time it took for the water to boil, but it's still cool to see. BTW a coke can stove weights 1oz and uses about 1.5oz of fuel to boil 2 cups of cold water.
