This is a pretty extreme example more for a nice photo opportunity, I generally don't carry that much tape on a bottle. I agree that being able to see the water level is very important.

Looks like a good idea. Much easier to remove tape from such a wide surface as opposed to a trekking pole which is where I keep my tape.

Have you noticed any difficulty in seeing how much water you have left due to the tape? I like keeping track of how much water I'm drinking.

Thanks porchdog! I'm a big believer that form follows function and not the other way round. I evangelize this as part of my day job and try to do the same here with my observations on what works for me and what doesn't work. The REI matches are amazing aren't they. Snag a few boxes because they sell out in the REI stores pretty fast :-)

you know Brian this is why i like your blog, your not one of those folks thats gotta have everything clean and perfect you go after the function of the items you carry, and thats what in the end, its all about,people dont need designer water bottles and yuppy items that look cool but are useless in the field, thank you for the time and effort you put into these reviews and posts, i know your time is limited, but its nice every day to see something else on your blog to look at, just wanted to tell you after seeing your post on fire starting my friend and i purchased the REI stormproof matches, man im impressed those babies are an EDC with me from now on, keep them coming my friend, Porchdog
