I completely agree. I've introduced several of my close friends to the Mora brand, most of whom have scoffed at the thought of a high-quality cheap knife.

All it take is one hands-on moment with this amazing little knife and they're sold! They typically have never experienced the scandi grind either - it's so much fun. Thanks for leaving a comment. Are there any other knives that you recommend?

I moved to Sweden 4 years ago and discovered the Mora knife, amazing thing, since then most of my more expensive knives have remained at home. It has never let me down (apart from loosing one once - but then cheap to replace). The blade keeps it sharpness so well, but best of all is how it actually feels in the hand and how well it works; I have no complaints. I'm just suprised how I hadn't discovered them before . . . . . .

Evan, you're not the first to point out that the SOG Seal Pup now comes in a full plain edge version. For the price it would be a truly superb knife - hard to beat. My only complaint about the Seal Pup I had was the serrations. For what it's worth and if you're on the fence, there is probably no better knife at that price point. SOG's guarantee and customer service is excellent too.

personally i have no use for ANY serration on a blade, it is difficult to sharpen and is used significantly less than the straight edge. SO! i had been shopping for a new fixed blade and had found that SOG makes the seal pup in a STRAIGHT EDGE ONLY blade. i was so excited! still considering buying it though...

I loved, loved, LOVED this review! I've never seen anyone do such a thorough job of comparing knives. Really helpful to anyone trying to make up their minds about which knife to carry.

The Mora's reputation was bore out here and elsewhere--it is still the most amazing series of knives ever produced, You can't beat the price and they will never let you down if you care for them properly and as lovingly as you would a higher-priced knife, and use them as intended.

I use a Mora Clipper and the Mora Triflex, depending on what I plan to do, how long I will be out. Heck--they are so light, I often carry BOTH! One on the belt and one in the pack.

Glad I found your blog--I'm a new fan!

Thanks for your reviews. I find it interesting that you ended up with the mora knife, but not surprising at all. I carry the wilderness bushcraft combo from woodsknife. Not only is the leuku knife excellent for battoning to split wood up to 5 inches in diameter for fire, but the small mora is wonderful for light work and carving. I paid quite a bit more for my set but I liked the birch handles and reindeer antler end caps. You can't beat a scandi grind high carbon blade. I love the small forest axe and have admired them for quite some time, but at 2.5 pounds I think I will stick with my fast bucksaw and wilderness bushcraft combo knife set. If you have never used or seen a fast bucksaw I would recommend a look at them. www.fastbucksaw.com

Didja ever get around to buying that JRE Cricket sheath for the F1? Gonna do a review on that? I've been looking at their Cricket for the S1, and keep hesitating at the price, so I'd like a second opinion on the value of one. Plus, I think it'd look good on my belt alongside the Zermatt sheath for my SAK Farmer (not that I'm flexible enough to twist around to look!).

@ Mattexian - No I never did buy a JRE Cricket for the F1. I spent the money I had for that one something else and never went back to look at it. I have some other JRE sheaths though and the quality is exceptional and their customer service is "old school" real people - easy to talk to.

@ Anonymous - Yeah, someone else mentioned that too, but at the time of me posting the review I didn't know about it. I'd like to get a full plain edge SEAL Pup and I still LOVE the sheath that it comes with.

Thanks for the detailed review. I have a Mora 711 and Classic no. 1. Both are great knives (in my opinion). The Classic was used for light work including the kitchen. The 711 was used for heavier task like cutting small diameter wood for fuel, etc.

As to the rusting, I protect my Moras by using them to peel pineapple. The patina formed on the blade serves as a protective layer for the blades.

BTW, I live in the Philippines and I use my knife an average of 2 times per year (2 to 3 nights backpacking each time).

Excellent comparison. VERY thorough. Very honest, too, with the issues you had with the Fallkniven and the SOG. I've wanted a WM1 for a while, but it's s'durned expensive and now that I have a Mora (860MG), I'm wondering if there's much the WM1 can do that the Mora can't.

What a great review on these three knives. I am just getting into bushcraft camping and I have been looking into buying a knife. I’m a bit of a knife snob and have never given Mora knives a second look. But after reading many reviews on the internet, I have yet to read a bad review on the Mora knives. I have ordered a Mora 440-MG for $11.98 from Ben’s Back Backwoods. The only complaint that I have read is on the sheath. I thought about buying a JRE leather sheath but I don’t like the idea of storing a carbine steel knife in a leather sheath. Leather retains moisture and that could cause the blade to rust. I have found a couple of sites where I can order Kydex sheaths for this knife for around $30 depending on the options that you want.

Confiscated? That sucks, but I had the same thing happen with my favorite Util-Key and even a P-38 one time - damn TSA. But a "ladies" EDC knife eh? This has the potential for a full blog post don't ya think?

For the last 15 years I've carried a Spyderco Delica (version #1) with a plain edge blade with me everywhere. It has proven to be the most effective and reliable folder that I have EVER owned. So much so that I recently purchased another one (although it's now version #4 and significantly updated) just to have a back-up. The cheapest price I could find was $50 at my local Walmart. I'd also recommend Cowboyknives.com they have a great selection of Spyderco knives at good prices and they're easy to deal with.

For me the Delica is the perfect size, weight, and form for just about every task. About the same size as a Bic cigarette lighter and not much heavier. I've bought numerous other very good folders over the years but have always relied on and returned to my trusty Delica. Spyderco makes smaller knives (like the excellent Dragonfly) that may better suit your needs, but for me the best all round EDC is the Delica with a plain edge, not the serrated edge which is hard to keep sharp. I've heard great things about the new Spyderco Tenacious model which is extremely well priced at an unbelievable $30 with G-10 handles! Nutnfancy has great video reviews of the Delica and Tenacious here.

Two other folders that I have and like a lot, just not as much as my Delica, are: Sog Twitch II, Emerson CQC7.
