Patagonia Forerunner Quick Look | Win a Pair!

Patagonia Forerunners

I'm currently test driving a pair of Patagonia Forerunner trail running shoes as a potential candidate for an upcoming GORUCK Challenge that I am doing in June - more on that another time - so I thought I'd share some of my initial thoughts and impressions.

After just a few weeks of wearing the Forerunners I'm digging them. I've been wearing them for mostly road/hard surface running with some occasional trail runs. I have not had an opportunity to test their ability to drain after getting soaked from a stream or river crossing scenario - but I will be doing that soon.

I liked the simplicity of the design of the Forerunners. They are not a hardcore minimal shoe, but they have very little in the way of unnecessary frills or features. With a 9mm heel and 5mm forefoot (4mm heel drop) I would not consider these to be a barefoot-style shoe, yet I like the amount of ground response I et wearing these.

The Forerunners are true to size though slightly more narrow that I had expected and the toebox is not as large as I would like. Even with feet as flat as mine they are not uncomfortable, but I can feel them on the sides of my feet if I lace them too tight. I've found that I prefer to wear the Forerunners without socks, which surprised to me. There are no internal seams or edges that rub my bare feet - I don't know of many other shoes I can honestly say that about. No blisters or hotspot so far.

Anyway, I'll be writing a more in-depth review of these in the coming weeks, but wanted to quickly give you all a heads up on two things related to Patagonia going on right now…

Firstly: PlanetShoes.com is running a promotion in partnership with Patagonia shoes to help support the Appalachian Mountain Club. from now thru April 2nd, for every pair of Patagonia shoes purchased via PlanetShoes.com they will make a donation of $10 to the Appalachian Mountain Club. If you're in the market for a new pair of shoes or already looking at the Patagonia brand check out PlanetShoes and see if you can help support the AMC as part of your purchase.

Secondly: PlanetShoes has very kindly offered to give away a brand new pair of Patagonia Forerunner shoes to one lucky reader of Brian's Backpacking Blog as part of their ongoing promotion. To be eligible all you have to do is 'like' the PlanetShoes Facebook page and post the following message:
