I'm beginning to think that my beloved old LLBean rain jacket is jinxed. I've fixed this jacket pocket once already after my trusty trail buddy, Coco, chewed right through it about a year ago. To be fair to her, it was sort of my fault. I had left one or two small doggie treats in the pocket after taking her for a walk, she saw my coat hanging on the back of the chair, smelled the treats and figured she'd eat them - pocket or no pocket.
I was pretty proud of the first repair I had made. I had scavenged some mesh material from some old gear and used my new sewing machine to make a replacement, it had been working well... but Coco took a liking to it again (this time with no treats in the pocket) and chewed right through the new pocket that I had sewn in. The result, after I removed the hanging pieces of mesh material, can be seen in the photo above.
This jacket is not a UL rain shell nor was it very expensive, it's just one of my old favorites and has traveled the globe with me on numerous trips and adventures. I want to keep it, but have decided that this repair is now beyond my basic capabilities.
I'm going to send this off to my friends at Rainy Pass Repair Inc. to see if they can make it look as good as new and potentially bring it back from the brink of extinction. I hope that they are able to save it and will definitely post an update on the results after I get it back. Fingers crossed!
Do you have any gear that you need to be repaired, or that you have repaired yourself?
